EU Representation for Fitness & Wellness Products

Fitness and wellness products sold in the European Union must comply with applicable EU product safety legislation. Depending on the product type and intended purpose, this may include the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, the Low Voltage Directive (LVD), the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC), the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), or the Personal Protective Equipment Regulation (PPE).

EARP acts as your EU Authorized Representative (AR) and Responsible Person (RP), ensuring your fitness and wellness products meet the EU representation requirements before entering the EU market.

Why Fitness and Wellness Require EU Representation

Fitness and wellness products are widely sold to consumers across the European Union through online retailers, fitness brands, and digital marketplaces.

Poorly designed or inadequately tested fitness products can lead to falls, muscle injuries, electrical hazards, or prolonged exposure to harmful materials. Wellness items may also raise concerns related to material safety, skin contact, hygiene, or improper use.

EU authorities monitor this category closely because incorrect design, poor instructions, or misleading claims can result in serious injuries. Manufacturers must therefore ensure accurate labeling, safe design considerations, appropriate warnings, and complete technical documentation. An EU-based Responsible Person must also be designated to support market surveillance authorities.

Common Fitness and Wellness Products

Fitness and wellness products include a wide range of consumer products such as:

Yoga Mats and Exercise Mats

Resistance Bands and Training Accessories

Fitness Trackers and Wearable Activity Monitors

Electric Massage Devices and Recovery Equipment

Home Fitness Equipment and Small Training Devices

Where these products include electrical or protective features, additional CE-marking directives may apply. EARP ensures your AR/RP appointment covers the full scope of applicable legislation for all product variations.

Our Role as Your EU Authorized Representative and Responsible Person

EARP acts as your EU-based contact under the GPSR, ensuring the required documentation is present and accessible and that authorities have a reliable communication point.

Frequent Compliance Issues and Related Safety Risks

Many fitness and wellness products are sold through online marketplaces such as Amazon. Non-EU manufacturers selling directly to EU consumers are typically required to appoint an EU-based Responsible Person or Authorized Representative before their products can remain listed on these platforms.

EARP provides the solution for direct-to-consumer sales as an independent third party EU representative.

Fitness and wellness products are frequently subject to EU market surveillance actions due to safety risks linked to design flaws, electrical hazards, or insufficient testing.

Material Toxicity

Exercise mats, foam products, and grips may contain restricted chemicals such as phthalates or heavy metals that pose health risks through prolonged skin contact.

Electrical Safety Risks

Electric massage devices or heated recovery products may present electrical shock or overheating hazards if insulation or internal wiring is inadequate.

Misleading Health Claims

Products marketed with medical or therapeutic claims may incorrectly avoid medical device classification, resulting in regulatory non-compliance

Inadequate User Instructions

Missing or unclear instructions can lead to improper use of fitness equipment, increasing the risk of injury.

Each of these safety failures typically originates from incomplete documentation or related non-compliance. Safety issues frequently result in EU market withdrawals or Safety Gate recall notifications.
