Representation for Household Products and Home Appliances in the EU
Household products and home appliances are typically subject to the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 (GPSR), and, where applicable, CE-marking legislation such as the Low Voltage Directive (LVD), EMC Directive, and RoHS. These frameworks require an EU-based economic operator to be identifiable and able to provide documentation to Market Surveillance Authorities on request.
EARP supports non-EU manufacturers by acting as their EU Authorized Representative (AR) and, where applicable, the Responsible Person (RP). We provide the required EU-based point of contact for authorities and help ensure that required documentation and labeling information is available and accessible when requested.
Why Household Products Require EU Representation
Ensuring Safety and Compliance for Consumer Products
Household products and appliances are subject to close attention from EU market surveillance authorities because they are used frequently, often by vulnerable users, and can pose risks such as electric shock, fire, burns, choking, mechanical injury, or chemical exposure.
Manufacturers must maintain technical documentation, conformity information, labeling, and user instructions that reflect the product placed on the market and can be provided to EU authorities upon request.
An EU-based Responsible Person must be available to support authorities, verify that the required documentation exists, and ensure products carry the correct identification and contact details.

Common Compliance Challenges
Many household product manufacturers face compliance challenges that delay or block EU sales. Some of the most common include:
Inconsistent model identifiers across the Declaration of Conformity, test reports, and product labeling
Incomplete or outdated technical documentation
Packaging missing EU-based contact details required for traceability
Assuming a distributor will automatically fulfill the required EU economic operator or RP role. In many sales models, the manufacturer still needs to ensure an EU-based RP is in place.
