The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2011/65/EU limits the use of certain hazardous materials in electrical and electronic equipment placed on the European market.

Scope of the RoHS
Electrical Safety Requirements for Consumer and Industrial Products
The RoHS Directive applies to a wide range of electrical and electronic products and restricts the use of substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, as well as certain phthalates used in plastic materials. Its objective is to protect human health and the environment by reducing hazardous substances in products throughout their lifecycle.
The RoHS applies alongside other CE-marking directives, such as EMC, LVD, and RED, and covers a wide range of electrical products, including:

The manufacturer remains fully responsible for material compliance, technical documentation, and conformity assessment under the RoHS Directive. All non-EU manufacturers must appoint an EU based AR before selling these products in the EU.

The Role of the Authorized Representative under RoHS
