The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU establishes requirements for wireless devices placed on the European market. Non-EU manufacturers placing radio equipment on the EU market must appoint an EU-based Authorized Representative to support documentation access and communication with EU Market Surveillance Authorities. Scope of the RED

RED applies to a wide range of connected and wireless products, including Smartphones and tablets; Wi-Fi routers and networking equipment; Smart home devices; Bluetooth accessories and wearables; and IoT devices and connected appliances.
Recent regulatory developments under the RED introduce additional cybersecurity and data protection requirements for certain connected devices. These requirements aim to ensure that wireless products protect network integrity, safeguard personal data, and prevent unauthorized access.
Manufacturers must maintain technical documentation demonstrating conformity with the Radio Equipment Directive. This documentation must be available to EU Market Surveillance Authorities upon request. Further, manufacturers based outside the EU must designate an Authorized Representative established in the Union before placing these products on the market.
